SO… long time without saying much. If I can fix my broken installation of Expression Engine I’ll be back, if not I will probably just say adios to blogging.
I need to get that /?/ part out of the urls so that search, etc will work. I found a hack in the wiki that might work. The fix I’ve been using in the htaccess doesn’t seem to work anymore and I don’t have access to the php.ini to fix the path info there.
Any EE geeks reading? I’d love a little push in the right direction!

It’s a new record for staying away from blogging I think. Last post was really July 8th?
Guess I had a busy summer!
Actually, the thing of it is that I had planned to get back to posting here except that while I was away on vacation my web host upgraded a few things, including mySQL. Of course I knew this was coming but neglected to pay much attention since we were in the midst of a heat wave and the last thing I wanted to do was be online.
In fact I was so sure things there would be no problems that I didn’t even check when vacation time was over. It wasn’t until about 10 days ago that I actually took a look after seeing the screen shot of my site on Ravelry, and saw the lovely error message. My host said it was probably a script or plugin that needed updating (um, can we say OBVIOUSLY here?) so I just left it until I was in a mood to do a little bit of googling, and pray for an easy fix.
Long story short (for anyone who cares or might have the same issue) is that the new version of mySQL running this site parses JOIN statements a bit differently from the previous version. Just took finding a couple of places to insert some brackets and we’re back in business!
Now if I just had something interesting to say…

Three attempts to upgrade to the newer version of EE Core have failed. Unfortunately Core is the free version, and free versions don’t have super fast support (and why should they? - they are free)! So I will zip my mouth before I say something nasty about my blogging software of choice because it would only be my frustration speaking. I’m sure if I forked over the $99 US for a personal licence I could get support. But that is $99 more than I want to spend on blogging at this point in time. I don’t need the functionality of the paid version, I just need some answers.
The forums and googling didn’t turn up anything I could use, so I am sticking with this version. My hosting wants me to upgrade, I’m going to have to tell them it can’t be done and hope they go for that answer! I don’t want to play with databases anymore, I want to knit and vacuum my house.
Okay, I don’t really want to vacuum but the dust bunnies are getting scary so I am just going to do it!
