Men don’t get emotionally attached to the clothing they own. Or at least my other half doesn’t. Why am I bringing this up? Well, recently it came to my attention that Frye boots are back in fashion.
I had a pair of Frye boots. Beautiful, classic, comfortable Frye boots that only got better the more they were worn. I bought them after my first marriage ended in disaster, I don’t know why. I was out shopping one evening shortly after moving into bachelor digs and they were just sitting there in the window of a shoe store and I knew I had to have them. I didn’t care that they cost way more money than I had on hand, I just had to have them, and so they came home with me.
Several relationships later, I met Himself (aka my husband), and we forged a relationship and moved in together. And the Frye boots came along. And he hated them. Called them ugly and clunky and just generally didn’t find them appealing. But I hung onto them and moved them through several apartments and into a new house. Somewhere along the the way they were let go of, mostly because I got tired of hearing “you never wear them and they just take up space…” At our last garage sale I got to thinking about them and wondering when I let go of them. And then I saw in a variety of magazines how some of the rich and famous are letting go of their Ugg boots (so very last year), and moving onto Frye boots AND paying big bucks for “vintage” versions. I had a pair and listened to a man and got rid of them. DUMB!
Oh well. Can’t go back in time and get them, but if I could, I would …
